Figure of the legendary Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus who, it is believed visited the mines in 1493 whilst he was a student at the Cracow Acadamy (now known as the Jagiellonian University).

It was carved from a block of green salt in 1973 by Władysław Hapek to celebrate the five hundreth anniversary of Copernicus' birth.
