The Dragon of Cracow.
According to legend a dragon lived in the cave under Wawel Hill (the site of the royal castle and cathedral). The people lived in terror until a peasent boy named Krak fooled the dragon into eating sheep skins filled with pitch and tar. When the dragon ate these the fire of his breath set them alight and he exploded.
Krak was hailed a hero and became the ruler of the city which eventualy bore his name (Krak-ów) .
